CMP History

CMP has expanded and intends to expand further into various markets using the knowledge and technology of its marine, industrial and container paints.

May 1917 This company was founded with the name of Chugoku Chemical Industry Limited Partnership in Naka-ku, Hiroshima City and started manufacturing marine paints.
May 1923 The company was reorganized as Chugoku Marine Paints, Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as CMP), capitalized at 250 thousand yen.
Jul. 1949 CMP was listed on the Hiroshima Stock Exchange (which merged with the Tokyo Stock Exchange in March 2000).
Oct. 1961 CMP was listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange (listed on the 1st Section in September 1984).
Mar. 1962 CMP built its Shiga Factory in Yasu gun (now Yasu City), Shiga Prefecture.
Oct. 1973 CMP established a local and consolidated subsidiary, Chugoku Marine Paints (Hong Kong), Ltd. in Hong Kong.
Mar. 1975 CMP built its Kyushu Factory in Kanzaki gun, Saga Prefecture.
Apr. 1980 CMP established a local and consolidated subsidiary, Chugoku Marine Paints (Singapore) Pte., Ltd. in Singapore.
Mar. 1983 CMP established a local and consolidated subsidiary, Chugoku Paints (UK) Ltd. (Former trade name: Camrex Chugoku Ltd.) in England.
CMP established a local and consolidated subsidiary, Chugoku Marine Paints (Taiwan), Ltd. in Taiwan.
Oct. 1985 CMP established a consolidated subsidiary, Ohtake-Meishin Chemical Co., Ltd. (Former trade name: Ohtake Chemical Co., Ltd.), in Ohtake City, Hiroshima Prefecture.
Aug. 1987 CMP established consolidated subsidiaries, Chugoku Paints Marine Sales Co., Ltd. (Former trade name: Chugoku Marine Paints Sales Co., Ltd.), Chugoku Paints Industry & Sales Co., Ltd. (Former trade name: Chugoku Paint Kanto Sales Co., Ltd.).
Oct. 1987 CMP built its Ohtake factory in Ohtake city, Hiroshima Prefecture.
Jan. 1988 CMP participated in the management of a paint manufacturing company, Chugoku Paints B.V. (Former trade name: Camrex Holdings B.V.) in Holland and made it a consolidated subsidiary.
Oct. 1988 CMP established a local and consolidated subsidiary, P.T.Chugoku Paints Indonesia in Indonesia.
CMP established a local and consolidated subsidiary, Chugoku Samwha Paints, Ltd. in Korea.
Sep. 1989 CMP established a local and consolidated subsidiary, TOA - Chugoku Paints Co., Ltd. in Thailand.
Jul. 1990 CMP established a local and consolidated subsidiary, Chugoku Paints (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. in Malaysia.
Oct. 1990 CMP established a local and consolidated subsidiary, CMP Coatings, Inc. (Former trade name: Chugoku America Holdings, Inc.), in USA.
Jan. 1993 CMP established a local and consolidated subsidiary, Chugoku Marine Paints (Shanghai), Ltd., in Shanghai, China.
Jan. 1994 CMP built its Research Center in Ohtake City, Hiroshima Prefecture.
Dec. 1994 CMP participated in Kobe Paints Ltd. and made it a consolidated subsidiary.
Oct. 1997 CMP established a local and consolidated subsidiary, Chugoku Marine Paints (Guangdong), Ltd., in Guangdong, China.
Jun. 1999 CMP's headquarter office moved to Ohtake City, Hiroshima Prefecture.
Jan. 2002 CMP merged two consolidated subsidiaries, Chugoku Paints Marine Sales Co., Ltd and Chugoku Paints Industry & Sales Co., Ltd.
Sep. 2002 The local and consolidated subsidiary, Chugoku Samwha Paints, Ltd. built its factory in Korea.
Nov. 2006 The local and consolidated subsidiary, Chugoku Marine Paints (Shanghai), Ltd. relocated its factory within the same district in Shanghai.
Nov. 2007 Relocation of Tokyo head office.
Mar. 2010 Chugoku Marine Paints (Shanghai), Ltd. opened its second factory.
May 2011 CMP established a local and consolidated subsidiary, Chugoku Paints (India) Pvt. Ltd., in Mumbai, India.
Nov. 2012 CMP participated in BOAT S.P.A. and made it a local and consolidated subsidiary in Italy.
Mar. 2017 The local and consolidated subsidiary, Chugoku Paints B.V., built its factory in Netherlands.
May 2017 100th anniversary of foundation.
Jan. 2019 CMP established a local and consolidated subsidiary, Chugoku-TOA Paints (Myanmar), Ltd., in Myanmar.
Aug. 2020 The local and consolidated subsidiary, Chugoku-TOA Paints (Myanmar), Ltd., built its factory in Myanmar.
Apr. 2022 In line with the restructuring of market segments at the Tokyo Stock Exchange, we have moved to the Prime Market from the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
